PROJECT OVERVIEW

resep is a recipe application built by green band company to increase customer engagement. All the recipes inside the application use products produced by Green Band as ingredients used for cooking. This application contains recipes of various recipes and foods from various areas in Indonesia and various countries in the world. In addition, this application also classifies recipes with various categories to make it easier for users to use this application. The purpose of this application is to make it easier for the elderly to find the recipe they want using ingredients produced by the Green band.

THE PROBLEM

Users are elderly aged 55 years and over, so accessibility must be considered in building applications.

  • Elderly over the age of 55 are more likely to have presbyopia, or nearsightedness, which makes reading small text more difficult.

  • At age 55 and over, hand-eye coordination and motor skills tend to decline, and this can complicate interactions with UI.

  • Many elderly aged 55 years and over are not familiar with using the internet

  • Elderly aged 55 years and over find it difficult to process a lot of information at one time

MY ROLE

UI/UX Designer, designing for IResep app from conception to delivery

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducting research, interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs

THE GOAL

Design a recipe app that can help the elderly to search for a recipe easily

Understanding The User

INTERVIEW

I conducted interviews to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research elderly aged 55 years and over who like to search for recipes to cook.

The finding from the interview :

  • Users just use smartphones for communication or social media

  • User cook food that has been consumed frequently before

  • Users never pay attention to the content of healthy food due to limited knowledge

  • Users rarely or never even search for food recipes on the internet

  • Users will be happy if they can find recipes that suit their health conditions

  • User expectations all recipes are in one application

  • The appearance has to be friendly to user such as large writing and objects and simple steps

PAIN POINTS

  • They tend to find it difficult to use and learn how to use mobile applications

  • User have limitations such as visibility, sensitivity to light, etc.

  • User have lower memory

Usability Study

Evaluation is carried out using the user testing method to find problems that can interfere with the tasks that the user will perform so that these problems can be fixed in the next iteration. The five users will run the application according to the instructions and directions given. The point is to get criticism and suggestions from applications that are built. This evaluation involved 5 users, elderly aged 55 years and over who had different demographics and experiences.

Before the usability study, the text and display were still too small, which makes users difficult to see the recipe for the food. After making improvements, text and display were made bigger.

FINAL DESIGN

GOING FORWARD

WHAT I LEARNED

While designing the IResep, I learned that User needs vary depending on the user's circumstances, based on place of residence, age, and gender. As a designer, I have to segment users and create a user interface that fits the target product.

NEXT STEP

Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.

Get in Touch.

So that we can talk more
